Madison J. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We are filled with so much gratitude as we reflect on the incredible day we shared together on Monday, October 21st. The Madison J. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament was truly a success and such a special event for so many reasons, and we simply cannot thank you enough for your overwhelming support.
Your presence, love, and generosity not only helped us celebrate Madison’s life, but also allowed us to raise vital funds for two causes that are incredibly meaningful to us: Pediatric Colorectal Cancer and Rare Tumor Research, and the Madison J. Smith ’25 Memorial Scholarship at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.
Thanks to your kindness, we are thrilled to share that we raised over $100,000 to support these efforts. We will be dividing the funds between Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., where Madison’s oncologist, Dr. AeRang Kim, is on the forefront of groundbreaking research in childhood cancer, and Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, where the first recipient of the Madison J. Smith Memorial Scholarship will be a student in the incoming class of 2029. We will be sure to keep you updated when the scholarship is awarded!
We are so grateful to Dr. Kim and her team for the incredible work they are doing, and we are thrilled that every penny of the donations to the Pediatric Colorectal Cancer and Rare Tumor Research Fund will go directly to research, with no overhead costs.

Looking ahead, we are already excited to start planning the 2nd Annual Madison J. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament, which will be held in October 2025 (date TBD). We will send out a Save the Date as soon as the date is set!

Madison was an incredible person and made an impact everywhere she went. At school, she was a terrific student and a fierce competitor on the golf course, winning all-met honors in her freshman year at Good Counsel. At Children's Hospital, she was a ray of light for the doctors, nurses, and fellow patients. That is why we have chosen to raise money both for the Madison Smith scholarship at Good Counsel and for pediatric cancer research. The scholarship at Good Counsel will keep Madison's memory alive by awarding scholarships to students who exemplify Madison's "Never Settle" attitude. The money that the tournament raises for pediatric cancer research will help push cutting-edge research forward in Madison's name. The motto "Never Settle" has become a rallying cry for students, teachers, athletes and parents alike. It can be found on Good Counsel athletic jerseys, banners, golf towels, spirit wear, and everywhere else where people need to be reminded of their own strength. Madison lives on in our lives in many ways, including when we remind ourselves to "Never Settle."
Madison's life has inspired so many people to take action on her behalf. Two amazing examples of this call to action are the "Meghan Made" bracelet Company and "Josephine's Sweet Treats." cookie company. Both of these amazing companies were founded by Madison's friends in her honor to raise money for her causes. Meghan and Josephine will be at Madison's tournament, so stop by and say hi.
